Upgrade of Exit 41, Queensland

Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) - South Coast Region, Queensland Australia

Project Overview

This project involved geotechnical investigation for the upgrade of Exit 41 on the M1 Pacific Motorway located between Brisbane and Nerang. The purpose of the investigation was to inform the detailed design of a new southbound on-ramp and off-ramp, upgrade of an existing bridge and construction of a new overpass. The upgrade will deliver a number of safety benefits to motorists using the M1 and the surrounding local road network in Queensland.

Engeo's Role

ENGEO’s role involved coordination, technical supervision and logging of boreholes and test pits, CPT Testing, site management, laboratory sample selection (soil classification, acid sulphate, point load and UCS), and factual reporting for the investigation.

This project was challenging to complete within the very limited time period available. Work began the week after Christmas, a very busy time during summer holidays in Australia and required permits to close lanes of the Pacific Motorway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Therefore the investigation needed to be completed within four weeks and required both day and night works.

Solution and Outcome

In addition to successfully completing the project, ENGEO developed a GIS Web Portal for the project which hosted all investigation data and site records. This portal was used as an interactive collaboration tool between the client, various consultants and ENGEO.
