ENGEO NZ is proud to be an independently certified Climate Positive Business Operation with Ekos. We have measured and offset 120% of our carbon footprint for 2022 with certified carbon credits.
In 2022, our New Zealand offices undertook an EKOS carbon footprinting exercise followed by the development of our smart carbon reduction strategy. Through this exercise, we identified that our top 5 carbon contributors are: project related fuel consumption (i.e., ENGEO fleet vehicles), air travel, electricity use, waste, and supplementary business travel (i.e., rental cars, taxis). In order to achieve our goal of becoming certified Climate Positive, we came up with short, medium, and long-term actions and goals:
Our certified carbon credits are sourced from projects that grow and protect forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver a number of amazing outcomes including climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.
Offsets have been sourced in the form of Permanent New Zealand Restorative Forest Units (NZUs) produced in the Kern Creek Forest Conservation Project located in the Maruia Valley, Aotearoa New Zealand and Verified Emission Reduction Units (VERs) produced in the Babatana Rainforest Conservation Project, in the Solomon Islands.
“ENGEO values environmental sustainability and recognises the importance of taking tangible steps towards a greener future. The Climate Positive Business Operations certification by Ekos signifies our dedication to making a meaningful impact,” shared Gareth Ward, Senior Environmental Scientist at ENGEO. “We’re proud of this accomplishment and eager to continue our sustainability journey.”
